Immunizing Your Child

Recommended vaccination schedules differ from country to country. Gertrude’s Children’s Executive Hospital has developed a standard vaccination schedule tailored for children living in Kenya/East Africa. The vaccines the clinic recommends for each age group reflect local infectious-disease risks as well as the 2015 recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S.A.

If you have recently arrived in Kenya, when you visit our clinic the nurse or doctor will tell you about the vaccines available and then agree on the most suitable immunization schedule for your child. If you wish to follow the vaccination schedule from your own country, we will record this in the clinic records for your child. We will then review your home country’s vaccine schedule, modifying it if necessary to take into account risks specific to Kenya and the region. With your agreement, we will follow this personalized schedule when immunizing your child. The clinic will provide you with the relevant vaccine information sheets for your reference. See Routine Vaccines and Recommended Vaccines for basic information.

Our Vaccination Schedule is divided into routine childhood vaccines, considered essential for all children, and several recommended vaccines, which you may wish to include in your child’s immunization program. The recommended vaccines are listed because of infectious-disease risks within Kenya and the region.

If your child should miss a dose of a particular vaccine, ask the nurse or doctor about a catch-up vaccination plan.
